Louis de Caullery specialised in views of towns, but most of these are capriccio, i.e., imaginary views with some elements of the cities depicted being placed in different positions or transformed. Many of his views are of Italian cities notably Venice, Florence and Rome and these excellently preserved examples show him at the height of his powers.
