Stalbemt was a wonderfully versatile landscape painter of consistently high quality. His buildings, with their wooden facades and very tall roofs are instantly recognisable and are often highlighted which makes identification even easier.  He had a long career, but his paintings are not plentiful, and he has always been greatly admired and sought after.  The little family group going for a stroll in this painting may well have commissioned it, with the children in the foreground in their elegant costumes being the focal point.
