FEMALE ARTISTS find their place in the spotlight at Frieze Masters 2023.

Not only in the world of Modern and Contemporary art, but also in Old Masters.  Unusually, we are fortunate enough to have two paintings by 17th-century women painters on our stand.  One, featuring two musicians by Judith Leyster, whose ‘star’ (her name means Leading Star) shone brightly in Haarlem when she was young, but who virtually ceased to paint after her marriage to fellow artist Jan Miense Moelanaer and had been forgotten by the time of her death.  The other by Anna Ruysch, sister of the more famous Rachel Ruysch, who is represented by a rare example of her accomplished flower paintings.  Both works found buyers within 24 hours.
