DORDRECHTS MUSEUM ACQUIRES PORTRAIT BY SAMUEL VAN HOOGSTRATEN
This imposing portrait of the distinguished parliamentarian Sir Norton Knatchbull was painted during the artist’s time in England from 1662 to 1667. The portrait remained with the descendants of the sitter until earlier this year. The acquisition strengthens the museum’s already significant holdings of this famous son of Dordrecht.
Purchased with the support of the Mondriaan Fund, the Rembrandt Association [thanks in part to its Willem and Mary Reus-de Lange Fund and its Friends Lottery Purchase Fund] and the Corporate Friends of the Dordrechts Museum.
