Dutch Old Masters go down a storm in Beijing!  From 17 June to 3 September 2017 the National Museum of China in Beijing is exhibiting a selection of masterpieces by 17th-century Dutch painters from the collection of Thomas Kaplan and his wife, Daphne Recanati Kaplan.  The largest ensemble of Dutch Golden Age paintings ever to be shown in China was received enthusiastically by crowds of museum-goers on the opening night.  The Leiden Collection - which takes its names from Rembrandt’s birthplace - introduces to a Far Eastern audience works by some of the greatest names of Dutch 17th-century art.  Rembrandt, represented by no less than 11 paintings (currently the largest private holding of his work), heads the bill, together with works by the most renowned Rembrandt School artists and members of the Leiden school of fijnschilders (fine painters).  The exhibition will continue its tour in the autumn going first to Shanghai, and then on to the Pushkin Museum and The Hermitage in Russia, and finally to the Louvre Abu Dhabi in 2018.
