The Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation, Texas, acquires remarkable Vanitas still life from Johnny Van Haeften.

Painted by the seventeenth-century, Flemish Master Christiaan Luycks, the image may be understood as not only an expression of the familiar Vanitas message, reminding the viewer of the inevitability of death and the impermanence of all worldly things, but also as a political allegory relating directly to the turbulent events of the painter’s day.  For a full description of this painting see Notable Sales.
